Ash Lyons (Cipher Site) is a Naarm/Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist residing on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri-Wurrung, working across oil painting, biomaterials, sculpture, installation, and performance. Lyons’ artistic vocabulary transmutes the materiality of skin- both human, plant, and animal, to blur distinctions and generate embodied connection. With a focus on the layered psychology of tattoos, hair, and identity, Lyons’ art renders the body in abstract forms that omit societal categorisation and invite a fluid perception of physical boundaries. Lyons’ art generates relation and empathy in disconnected times by reshaping the materiality of skin to highlight forgotten similarities between humans, the environment, and animals.
